View Full Version : Windows XP Fax Console - RINGING

I use the Windows XP fax console and after it is brought up, even when there
are no calls coming in, the console is ringing and trying to answer a call.
Even after shutting down the console, the ringing continues (it sounds like
an old fashioned ring). I have tried changing the setting and have had no
luck. The only way to get rid of it is to shut down the computer and restart.
Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mark,
There is no reason fax service/console should show that the line is
ringing unless the line actually rings. If you are sure that your phone is
not getting the call and fax console is giving false alerts, then you may
try changing the answering mode. The answering mode has three states - OFF,
MANUAL, AUTOMATIC. To change this settings go to Tools->Configure Fax in Fax
console to open the Configuration wizard and in the Configuration wizard
Select the 'Enable Receive' option if you want the system to receive
incomingcalls. Note that if receive is enabled the fax service will identify
all the incoming calls as Fax calls as distintive ring support is not there
in Windows Fax. And Fax console need not be running to answer an incoming
call. So if you feel the problem is not solved even after changing the
receive settings, you can prefer to switch off the 'Enable Receive' and
enable it as and when you need it.
Get back with you reply as to whether you were able to get rid of the
problem.
