I am having difficulty playing back CDs and DVDs on my Win XP Pro
installation. Whenever I try to play a CD or DVD, be it in Windows Media
Player 10 or WinDVD or Media Player Classic or even VLC, the audio pops on
playback. It pops once per second, sounding much like buffer errors within
multi-tracking software. This problem does not occur when playing audio off
of the hard disk, even high resolution audio (24-bit, 48kHz). It only pops
on optical media.

I am using an AMD Athlon XP 1800+, 768MB RAM, M-Audio Delta 44 Sound Card,
ASUS and Lite-On optical drives. I have used this exact system without
problems before, but had to reformat and since then have had troubles.
