Recover earlier backup sets

Does anyone know how I can recover MSDOS 3,1 and win 9X
backup sets from within Windows XP? I need some
prehistoric tax records and don't know how to get them.

Previous versions of the Microsoft Backup program are not compatible with
XP. You will need to restore those files on a system with the OS that they
were created in and then move the files to the XP system. There are also
some third party backup programs that are compatible with XP which you can
also use to extract these files from those earlier versions of MSbackup.
