No window's upgrade

I have OS home XP, I had to Fdisk my hard drive because
of a virus, I reloaded everything and it worked fine
except for activation, I could not activate through the
computer I had to call Microsoft to activate now when I
go to get updates through windows update, it does
nothing, it only says UNDEFINE. Why won't it give me
updates. I know there are updates out there. Any help
would be great. Thanks Chris
