I did my usual downloading of the critical updates and
then did some if the recomended and after downloading the
recomended my system started crashing. I ended up having
to reformat and reinstall. After all that it was running
great. Then I went to update windows again and thats when
it all happened again. But this time I got an error that
said I was missing some kernl file. So i am going to
reformat again and start all over again. This time
without getting any of the recomended updates.

System Stats

Motherboard: Asus A7N8X Deluxe
Processor: AMD AthlonXP 2700
Ram: 512
Hard Drive: W/D 120 gig
Video Card: ATI Radion 9000 128meg

The same thing happened to me this morning. But this is my concern; I had
auto update turned off, after installing sp2 on my machine 1 week ago nothing
worked some how after rollbacking a couple of times it all straightned out.
Now back to this morning. My machine has crashed 5 times, AUTO UPDATE WAS
TUNED ON WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE which in its own is upsetting, but it keeps on
trying to install sp2. Does any one know how to stop this process, I DO NOT
WANT SP2, and i can not keep this machine from trying to reinstall it, i have
cleand the temp folder i have rolled back the machine 5 times from safe mode,
and since i started this responce it has requested that i restart another 8
times. HOW DO I STOP THIS VICIOUS CYCLE, WHAT DO I NEED TO DELETE, UNINSTALL,
OR WHAT EVER FROM MY MACHINE?

I got it, i went straight to the auto update in the control panel and turned
it off before any thing else loaded on start up. But now I have sp2 files
listed in my add and remove program, that can not be removed, any body have
any idea where these temp file are and how to get rid of this garbage. My
personal opinion sp2 stinks, and how my auto update was turned on without my
knowledge really upsets me!!!!!!!

My friend turned on Auto Update and SP2 was installed. The PC was so slow
afterward that I had to remove it. After removing it, the machine started to
have a ton of problems and reinstalling XP seemed to be the only answer. I
just bought and installed a new version of XP Pro with SP2 and it works
great. Actually far better than I expected after seeing all the problems with
PCs that were upgraded from SP1 to SP2.

Just my opinion but I think SP2 should only be install on 2.0 GHz machines
or faster.
