problems with the icon tray... help please

as you well know windows is a flawless system..heh..well
when my explorer crashes everynow and then, when it brings
back up the start bar, it doesnt always bring back all my
programs in the icon tray by the clock. the programs are
still running, but i have no way of getting to them since
they arent showing up in the tray, can anyone help?!?

well the program thats running is downloading off the
internet, and since i cant see it i cant pause it or
anything, and if i were to reboot i'd loose everthing i've
downloaded so far.. anyone know a way without rebooting?
