SP2 and Updates Problem!!!

A client's computer is running XP Pro. and I have been unable to install
SP2. The process begins and during the installing files portion, access
denied error pops up, then the uninstall wizard runs. I cleaned up spyware
and viruses, tried to run SP2 again, same thing happened. Now, I cannot get
to the Windows Update Page. When it is checking for updates, get the
message that

"the web page has encountered a problem and cannot display the view you
requested"

Any ideas?

Try going to microsoft.com,install microsoft update,it replaces windows
update.
Have they tried installing SP2 from a file,cd or trying from update.Try
downloading
the file,then install.
