Installing (Operating System Installation)
1. Boot with the CD-ROM to install Windows XP (F1 to F2 or DEL Keys on
keyboard)
2. Create new partitions after accepting EULA with F8 key. Example: if
it is a 20 gig hard disk create two partitions of 10 gig each. Leaving
the last one in FAT32.) Note: MS-DOS cannot recognize NTFS4 and 5
Partitions and might confuse FDISK. FDISK will see them as NON-DOS
Partitions.
3. After the file transfer the GUI will start and you will need to
choose a keyboard language. You will keep English American(US) and you
will add French Canadian with French Canada Layout. You will set
French Canada as Default Language.
Note: you will need to do that in the USER and the ADMIN USER.
4. After the keyboard configuration you will be prompted to name the
machine ownership you will enter in the name field
5. After Ownership of the machine you will need to setup the network
parameters.
6. You will set the time zone
7. After that you will give the default password for administrator
Computer Configuration:
1. Copy \I386 Directory of the WINXP CD
2. Restart as Administrator.
3. After that right click My Computer and click manage. After that you
will click on Local users and Groups. In Users you will remove all
users except guest and administrator. After that you will rename
administrator to admin or admin01.
4. Go to Start/Windows update and install the Service Pack 1 Express
patch and choose the option to not archive the data. After the
installation, reboot and do a right click on my computer and you
should see Service Pack 1 to confirm SP1 Installation was successful.
5. Return to Start/Windows Update and install the rest of the updates
except .net 2003 and Windows Media Player 9 and Codec's.
6. Install Microsoft Office XP Professional and look if the user needs
access (Note you need to install office with the custom mode and you
will need to set the install with the option RUN ALL FROM THIS
COMPUTER.
7. Open Word or Excel and go to Help Office on the Web. On that page
you will see product updates. After that you will detect the updates
that office needs and you will install SP1 and SP2 and the Word Excel
and Outlook patches. Finally Reboot and to confirm that there is no
more updates return to the web site to see product updates (Note when
you will be prompted for initials remove them)
8. After that you will Install your Anti virus Software ( Norton
2002-2003 or Mcafee)
9. After that you will install WINZIP 8.1
10. After that you will install Acrobat Reader 5.05
11. After instal all other softwares
