Hello,
suppose I got 2 HD, c:\ and d:\

I do backup c:\ store it in a *.bkf file on d:\

Now c:\ does really crash, so I got to buy a new one. What must I do,to
completly recover my "old" c:\ ????

I did experiment by booting from CD. For the automatic recovery, it wants a
diskette.. does this mean I have to backup ALL say 40 GB from c:\ on
disketts ?
And worse: the backup option using "shadow" does not seem to work; when I
try to make "complete" backups INCLUDING system status, the comp does freeze
!
Just backing up c:\ with "shadowing" disabled works fine. But the log says
it did not backup files "in use" ....

If you used the ASR to make the bkf file, install your new c: hard drive.

Boot with the XP CD and ensure your have the floppy you made when you
created the bkf file.

When the screen suggests you press F2 for the ASR, do so. Insert the ASR
floppy into the floppy drive.

It will format the new c:\ drive and then copy everything from the bkf file
to your new drive. It will then restart and your PC should be back where it
was before the old drive died.
