I just bought a laptop and the dvd player uses 8x speed discs and up. The
problem I am having is that I have a dvd recorder that records 4x discs and I
can't view them on the laptop. The 4x dvd's will start playing in the laptop
but then freeze up after a few minutes and any type of fast forwarding during
those few minutes causes it to freeze also. Is there a setting I can change
or something that I can do to be able to view these dvd's? The viewing
programs I have are Windows Media Player and Arcade.

There shouldn't be any problem with the notebook DVD player which should
play the disks correctly. Although the desktop records them at only 4x, it
plays them at whatever speed it is rated to.... probably 16x or 8x.
Recording (Writing) is different from Reading.

You may wish to try another brand of media. Also ensure that if the disks
you are burning are +R, make sure the notebook reads +R.
