Setup a home network using Linksys wireless access point
router and 4 port switch. Hard wired my computer to the
router and installed wireless USB network adaptor on
computer upstairs. Install seemed to go fine, XP saw the
new hardware, I loaded drivers, selected the network
connection and I was online. The problem started when I
would restart the computer, the connection
was "unavalible". Many calls to Linksys, updated
everything, changed configuration of router and USB
adaptor, no change. Finally I discovered that after the
computer booted if I unpluged the USB connector from the
computer and plugged it back in the wireless connection
would establish just great. Tested this over and over
always the same, unplug and plug in and it would work.
Computer that is wireless is HP running 2.4Gz P4, 512MB
ram running XP Home. Make a long story short, I got tired
of that process, so i returned the USB adaptor and bought
a PCI wireless adaptor, installed it and it has never
failed. Works great always.
Any ideas why the USB would act that way? Linksys had no
explanation. The only thing I can come up with is the
power requierments of the USB wireless and HP's USB
keyboard were too much together, ie. 500ma supply, and
the keyboard uses 500ma alone.
Anyone? Would like to know because the next computer is
my daughters and would like to use the USB adaptor.
Thanks in advance.
