View Full Version : Win XP & Hyper-Threading

I recently built a new computer and chose Win XP PRO + SP1
as the OS.

Using a 3.0 GHz P4 w/ 800 FSB (Hyper-Threading capable) on
an Abit IC7-G MB (Again HT capable).

I have enable HT in the bios (bios has been flashed to
most recent version), and I see that HT is enabled during
system post.

However, XP does not recognize that I am running a Hyper
threaded system. The symptoms of this are the following:

1) Performance meter under the Task Manager shows only 1
processor.

2) Device Manager has only a single entry under Computer
(More on this later)

3) SiSoftware Sandra utility notes that HT is disabled,
likely due to OS settings.

Ok, one of my first atempts at a fix was to manually
update the device driver under the Computer category in
Device Manager. Initially it read a a Uniprocessor
machine, I updated it to use the Multiprocessor driver.
While the new driver seems to work fine, I still have no
indication of HT being active.

On other forums, people state that their device manager
has a 'Processor' category. I can't find that in my home
system or work system (I've tried all the view combos I
can think of too!)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
