I just upgraded my OS from Win98 to WinXP. I have a
1.3GHz AMD Athlon processor (FIC az11e motherboard), but
XP recognizes and installs it as a 650MHz processor. In
this configuration, my system runs like a 150MHz system
(SiSoft Sandra benchmark).

To fix the problem I must go to the device manager,
uninstall the processor and rebot the system. When XP
starts the processor is recognized correctly and the
system runs perfectly.

Unfortunately, with every subsequent reboot XP
reconfigures the processor to 650MHZ and the computer
runs like crap again.

The Bios always detects the correct hardware, and when
running in 650MHz mode Sisoft's Sandra also recognizes
the correct hardware.

PLEASE HELP!!!! Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Have you contacted FIC to see if they know what the problem is? Have you
checked their website for updated BIOS and VIA 4in1 updates? I bet either
of those would fix your problem.

Thanks for the posts.

So I did two things:
(1) installed the latest Via 4-in-1 drivers (no change)
(2) reset the BIOS to default values. Viola!

I don't know which setting was the problem. The only
change I notice is the onboard sound and gameport getting
enabled (Via chipset). The Multiplier and FSB remained
the same.

Regardless of the exact solution, thank you, thank you
thank you. I had no idea such a little thing could cause
so much frustration.
