View Full Version : Long Boot Time with Firewire Drive attached

When I reboot my computer WinXP (SP1) from the root C:
drive, I get an incredibly long wait (three minutes)
while the system tries to bring up my I: drive, an
external Firewire drive (I see this as a Logon+Service
Initialization if I run Bootvis.exe--Disk Utilization
shows tons of activity). This drive was initialized and
loaded on another WinXP system that was logged onto my
local domain (and it has a ton of old Macintosh files on
it). The drive comes up, but I don't understand why it
takes so long. I expect it's a permissions thing or some
sort of indexing thing. Anyone have an idea what I could
do to get the system up more quickly? (Yes, unplugging
the drive causes the boot time to drop to less than a
minute!)

Thanks,

Frank
