i am looking for the command that you need to put into
your computer so you can scan disk. i know that you type
it into the "run" that is located in your "start" part of
your computer but i need to know what to type in. i
remember that it starts with the letter C. i would
appreciate your help.

Scandisk is now known as Check Disk:
Open the Command Prompt and type: CHKDSK /F , and hit enter.
Answer "yes" and reboot your computer.
1. Open XP's "Help and Support".
2. Look under "Pick a Help topic".
3. Click on "Performance and Maintenance"

Annette,
It is called Check Disk in XP [and i believe all versions of Windows since
`95. You can input it through a Command Prompt [I do it thusly: Start/All
Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt, type "chkdsk c: /v /r /x"(less quote
markers) (replace the c with whatever your Hard Drive identifier is)) in the
box then hit the Enter key; when the question is asked type "y" and hit the
Enter key again. Then shut down and restart. Another way: Start/My
Computer/right click the Disk you want to check (Usually C if you only have
one Hard Drive)/Properties/Tools/ and you will see the boxes to click for
error checking or Defragmentation.
