Auto loading app with new media

OK, I give up, I've tried everything.

Recently when I insert media into the CD drive the
preferred app would load, i.e. Intervideo DVD4 when I put
in DVD, Windows Media player when I insert a CD etc.

Now nothing, the drive just spins up and that's it, I
havde to load the app manually, what a pain.

I'm using XP professional on a Toshiba Tecra S1.

Any help, its got to be easy but I just can't find the
switch.
