View Full Version : RPC Server is Unavailable When You Attempt to Add a Printer -I don't run NT.

The following Knowledge Base article is the only
information I could find on this problem.
I turned off my printer, XP Pro uninstalled it
(inexplicably), and when I now try to install the printer,
it accepts and even has the correct HP drivers, it loads
them, and then the last page of the install wizard says :
"Operation could not be completed. The RPC server is
unavailable."
I have tried without the wizard, of course, and get the
same error message.
My RPC in Services is set to turn itself on automatically,
and it shows 'started', so I am at a loss.
I tried to copy the 'Spoolss.exe' and 'spoolss.dll' files
from another copy of XP -Home, but there is no executable
file 'Spoolss.exe'. As I said, I do not run a server, and
I need this problem addressed.
Thank you -any of you gurus who take a few minutes to help
me.

CAUSE
This issue can occur if the Spoolss.exe and Spoolss.dll
