XP and Adobe

I recently got a computer with XP. I started tranfering
programs and files to the new computer. One of the
programs contained Adobe Acrobat 4.0 which I found out is
not compatible with XP and required a download. I
downloaded the patch and the problem persists. The
Microsoft error website diagnosed the problem as the
ATMdeluxe not compatible.Long story short, I uninstalled
Adobe and XP messaged an error after the following boot
up. What else could it be or should I do? Would
downloading the Adobe 6.0 self-correct any leftover files
from the older Adobe version.?
