Can anyone instruct me as how to remove my computer's
oem*inf files.
I was attempting to follow the instructions below.
However, when I typed in "ren infcache.1 *.old" I
received the following message:
"The syntax of the command is incorrect".
I tried repeating the command several times and received
the same message. Can anyone tell me what am I doing
wrong or is there an alternative way to remove all
oem*inf files? Thank you. Lee
Instructions that I was given:
1. Click start and click run then under the run line type
in the command "cmd" (without the quotation marks)
2. In the command line, type in the following (without
the quotes) and press enter after each command:
"ren infcache.1 *.old"
"ren oem*inf *.old"
"del C:\windows\setupapi.log"
"exit"

First, the info given is totally wrong.
Here is how it should read:
ren infcache.1 infcache.old (you must be in the directory where infcache.1
resides)
ren oem*.inf oem*.old (notice the period before the first inf; you must do
this command
for each individual file you want
to change)
del C:\windows\setupapi.log
exit
Whoever gave you this information obviously does not have a lot of
experience using the command line.

Hi
If you want to delete the oem*.inf files - although you may be denied =
access to some of them:
from a command (cmd.exe) prompt - type "del %systemroot%\inf\oem*.inf" - =
without the quotes. Please note the space between the l and %. Those =
that you are denied access to can be dealt with later. Not sure why =
'infcache.1' has been mentioned or the 'ren' command which means =
'rename'.
