computer freezing

i have a windows xp home and a couple of weeks ago it
started randomly freezing, causing me to have to manually
restart it by pressing the restart button. i cant even do
ctrl-alt-del to see whats wrong. the whole comp just
freezes and i cant do anything. it freezes just about
every time i use the comp. i was just wondering what i
could do to fix it. im thinking about reformating the
hard-drive. please e-mail me if you can help
