hanging......

My computer is starting to hang (freeze). It will last
for almost a minute and then be fine for a couple of
minutes 'til it hangs again.
I notice that when this happens, the light is on on
the "DVD drive" drawer. When the light goes out then it
unfreezes. Nothing is in the drawer and it seems to be
trying to run all the time. I did a "system restore" and
it did not help.
