XP Pro performance problems

I am running XP Pro SP1 (preloaded) on a Dell Latitude
laptop with 1.7MHz processor, 20GB drive and 512MB RAM.
Performance is so bad that the laptop locks up with one or
multiple windows open and often I have to power off to
unfreeze it. I've heard of a known performance problem
with XP sp1 but no details. I'm running Office 2000 Pro
and Netscape 4.76 - half the time I can't edit a Word doc
when only Word is open. Any help would be appreciated!

Did you get this from Dell? If so then call them. Their tech support
should be able to assist.
