Windows XP home and hibernation/lockup

I am encountering a problem with my Windows XP system.
If I let computer stand without activity for several
hours the connection to the web locks up on me. I
disabled the hibernation feature but that has not
helped. Also, I am running though a router fyi. Are
there any settings in XP that I could change so I do not
have to restart my computer to get to the web.
