desktop items appearing

help! Frequently after I've been on the internet, i will
find that a new desktop item has appeared. it always
advertises for something(eg. Fathers Day Steaks-CHEAP)and
when you open it it takes you to a website about the
product or whatever it is advertising for. I am running
windows XP professional, and this has been occuring for a
couple of months now. I would appreciate any help out
there. thanks

Turn on your firewall in your connection--properties --advanced.
