My IT man upgraded me to XP Professional SP2, and then left me without
fixing all the problems. I found an hp laserjet 1012 not being used and am
trying to set it up as a local printer (USB). I've tried several drivers,
deleted and reinstalled the printer etc and still get the error "This
document failed to print". Tried the printer on a W2000 machine and it works
fine.

Is the USB port known to be working?

When the printer is plugged into the USB port, the printer is identified and
installed.
