My brand-new Hewlett Packard XP computer is sluggish. I've seen, and am
trying to find again, the list of services that are required by Windows
XP. I want to stop all other services to see what's causing the slow
down. Anyone know where this is?

Nice isn't it - Brand new and sluggish. Sloppy imaging and the
loading of all manner of unwanted apps and services. As long
as you have a recovery process (CD, Hidden Partitions), go
to Control Panel (Classic View), open Add/Remove Programs
and start uninstalling. Be especially careful to get rid of the 30
or 90 day trial versions. Many OEMs now provide only a time
limited security solution (McAfee or Symantec). Unfortunately,
many of those aren't shown as trials in the Add/Remove listing.
Also, the current trend is for OEMs to install all kinds of tools
for updating and reporting errors. These "Might" be beneficial
but generally, they just take up system resources. You can get
a good idea of the amount of clutter/junk by the number of icons
shown on the System Tray (by the Clock).

What is the processor speed? How much RAM memory?

Hope this helps.
