Hello to everyone who helped with this.
The comp is up and running again.
The answer was in the Bios - boot up was set to start with floppy and not
the CD-ROM.
How it had changed I dont know. The comp builder said it was all down to
some bug/malware/virus that was lingering in the system.
I made a suggestion put forward by others that the HD was on the way out.
He said I didnt know what I was talking about and we are back to not taking
to each other.
Thanks again to all who helped. As soon as I can work out the maker of the
HD I will run a diagnostic. I told the builder that if it is on the blink I
shall be asking for a full refund as this was the fourth major prob since it
was built in May 2005.
