View Full Version : CPI usage @ 100% almost always

Help Please
December 11th 03, 11:26 PM
I recently installed Windows XP Home Edition on my AMD K6
(2) 300 mhz computer. I added 128 mb of RAM to the
existing 64 to meet the recommended requirements for XP.
Everything ran like a dream. A couple of weeks
later, I started noticing hesitation between functions
(moving the mouse pointer, opening programs, breaks in
the Windows closing "music", etc). I just figured it
needed more RAM, so I replaced the 64 with another 128.
That didn't help though. I have the same problems. When
I check the performance, every few seconds it shows as
cycling to 100% CPU usage, then down to almost none, and
then back to 100% again. I assume that's what's causing
the hesitation. However, I have no programs running
other than the performance monitor when I see this. Is
there a setting that I need to change to get the computer
running back to normal? It was running great, and then
boom, this happens. Now the computer is essentially
useless. I'd appreciate any advice.
