No recognition of keyboard or mouse

My computer was not recognizing my mouse, (I think I was
having a problem with my usb port), I tried to restore the
previous settings, when my computer restarted I was able
to logon one time and now the computer no longer
acknowledges the keyboard. I am now able to start my
computer but unable to input anything. Windows XP loads
and then is becomes stuck on the log on page. Any help
would be great.
