shut down

my windows xp based computer wont shut down. when i click
shut down it restarts. i tried to do what microsoft told
me to do (uncheck the auto-restart tab) and that just
gave my computer an error and made it so it wouldnt
restart OR shut down. someone please help me!

That's what it should do. The blue screen with error info is important.
