This is a continuing problems of mine. I have Win XP home
on P4 2.0G HP with 80 gb Harddrive and 768MB of Ram.
Currently 24GB of space left on drive.
I loose disk space continuously over a week until I get
the low disk space warning. I reboot and I am back to
24GB. My page file is at 768MB. I have scanned my hard
drive and can find no files that are being created. System
Restore is turned off. Cache for IE6 is set to 350MB. If I
do a cleanup I might see a couple of MB's of files to
clean but that is it. Any one have a clue?

Enable Show Hidden Files and Folders -Start, Control Panel, Folder =
Options, View.

Extract from post earlier a while ago by R. McCarty, which is relevant:

Your C: Drive also contains the following, you may not be
aware of.

Pagefile.Sys - Probably in the range of 1.5 Gigabytes
Hiberfil.sys - A hibernation file also 1+ Gigabytes
System Restore - A fixed % of the drive (Around 10%)
Recycle Bin - A fixed % of the drive
Offline Files - Cached into C:\Windows\CSC
IE Cache - Probably set to 100+ megabytes (should be
Purged, set to 35 Megabytes max.
Temp Folders - Need to be purged. C:\Windows\Temp

These files are hidden by default.=20

Also are you using Norton Utilities -Norton Protected Storage?

Hope this helps.

No, not running Norton, and already have all hidden files
showing. I think it has something to do with IE or Java as
it seems to disappear faster when browsing or playing
online games. The pagefile.sys file never gets any bigger,
and I can clear the cache but I am getting MB's back not
GB's when I do that. A reboot brings everthing back and
then slowly starts disappearing. Usually within a week I
will have lost 24GB and get the low disk space alert.
Reboot and back in business.

When you get to have lost 24 gb enter Windows Explorer and search using =
"*.*" without quotes and for files over 1 mb using the "What size is =
it?" option. Compare your suspicious candidates with a similar search =
when the 24 gb has been restored.
