one 4215. It won't install the hardware but wizard says software was

Is this the latest driver from the HP website? Did you install the software
BEFORE connecting the printer to the PC?

How are you connectng it to the PC? USB? Are the USB ports KNOWN to be
working correctly with other USB devices?

Its only connectable through USB. How would I check to see if USB connections
are working. I have tried to install the software before, during, and after
connecting the printer. The driver is from HP site.

Is there a 'ding' sound when you connect the printer?

If not, try borrowing a USB device from a friend....a mouse maybe. Then you
can see if the USB port itself is working. If you prove it is, then try a
different cable from USB port to printer and see if things change.

No the USB is fine. I reluctantly went back to the HP instructions step
by step... and on step 7/8 is where it hiccups. I have done everything
imaginable from different USB cables to reinstalling windows .msi to
reapplying the halaacpi.dll back in the windows\system32 dir.
The problem is the drivers. I went back to HP's web site to download
a new set of drivers.
No dice. I then tried installing the printer on other computers no
dice. I called hp I got some 1st tear level tech. we spent 2 hours on
the phone... only to say that there is a glitch on my OS. Right..... I
don't think so.... I even upgraded my freaking BIOS on my 8 month
old laptop... what a joke.... I have looked & the event logs & I
can't find anything wrong with the system it all points back to the
drivers....
