I am running XP Home and the printer in question is a HP LaserJet connected
through a print server. All is fine with the printing but I have a recurring
problem that is more of an annoyance than anything else.

When I have a power disruption and the UPS kicks in, the LaserJet will no
longer print. The documents sent to it are held in the queue and a "failed
to print" icon is displayed.

The fix is simple. I change the printer port IP address from xxx.xxx.x.100
to xxx.xxx.x.101 and printing resumes. The next time there is a power
disturbance, it occurs again and I have to change the IP address from
xxx.xxx.x.101 to xxx.xxx.x.100 ...

My question is why does the port IP address change? Thanks for any
suggestions.

It's best to assign a static IP address to a network printer. This should
be in the same subnet / range as your router and outside it's DHCP range.
