I recently installed my desktop registered version of XP
on my laptop which runs me, to see whether or not it
would resolve a problem I was having. My problem
disappeared using XP. I have purchased another copy of
XP and should receive it in a few days. Do anyone know
if I can install and register my new copy on top of my
old version or do it need to uninstall and install the
new copy from scratch?

Hi Eddie,
If they are both retail copies of the same XP edition and you have not
activated the laptop it should be fairly easy to feed the machine the new
brought key and activate, without needing to reinstall. When you go to
activate windows, select to activate by telephone then click the change
product key button. Once you've entered your new key continue to activate.
If this was on OEM copy that was distributed with your desktop computer (or
you have already activated a retail version) and you want to now replace
that with a new retail copy you can perform a repair install
