Hi Shenan - you seem to be very knowlgeable perhaps you
can help. I am running Windows XP
I am down to 1.2 gigabytes out of 10 and have that only
because I've followed some of your earlier advise.
Is there some way I can see if I have old files or
drivers attached to programs I've removes (e.g. microsoft
works, older versions of AOL)which I can eliminate.
Also, is there anyway I can see if I have duplicate files
in different places on my computer and elimiminate the
duplications.
Finally, I seem to have a lot of space taken up by Office
SP1,Sp2 etcetera. When you load a new service pack, can
I delete the old one

You don't seem to have much space, that's true.. You are at about 12% free,
and that's LOW.
I'm guessing you have gone through your installed programs and uninstalled
the programs you don't need. Also suggest uninstalling parts of windows
(some of the games like Solitaire, etc) that you may not play - same
add/remove, but click the add/remove windows component button..
If you have done the disk cleanup, then beyond manually looking for stuff
you can get rid of or downloading some of the freeware 'file duplicate'
finding software - There's not much more you can do. You may very well have
some stuff leftover from old programs, but usually not much.
I have heard good things about this application:
http://www.cmdiskcleaner.com/
Give that a whirl.
If you have a CD burner - burn stuff (documents, music, whatever) you don't
use much to CD.
Change the Internet Explorer temporary internet files options to use only
about 80MB -> Tools -> Internet Options -> General tab -> Temporary Internet
files area -> Settings and in the amount of disk space to use, type in 80..
(It seems to be a better number than the GBs it can use..)
I have also used this program in the past to see what directories are taking
up the most space - so I at least KNOW where all my space is going:

Directory Sizes 1.4
Hope that helps!

Andy;
You can possibly save space deleting the uninstall files for the
updates.
Once you are sure you will keep Windows XP Service Pack 1.
The files may be hidden, to show the file:
Go to C:\WINDOWS
Click the top TOOLS, click FOLDER OPTIONS, click VIEW
Check the radio button. "Show hidden files and folders"
Click OK and you should now see more files.
Go to C:\WINDOWS and delete "$NTServicePackUinistall$" about 240 mb.
Then go to Add/Remove Programs.
Click Service Pack 1, there will be an error since you just deleted
the file.
Click YES to delete the shortcut.
Use similar procedure to delete similar files for the updates.
