I have a windows xp home machine with many accounts.
I recently disconnected the default printer and began
using a printer served on another computer.
In my administrator account on the xp machine I removed
the old Port Attached printer, and added the new one
with a url accross my home network.
The problem is that the users cannot get rid of
the old printer in their control panel and some of
them still have it as a default printer.
What is worse, even if I make a new account
the default (missing) printer is also installed.

Can anyone tell me how to erase the phantom lpt printer?

thanks very much.

Have you tried making the accounts administrator accounts, performing
maintanence, then setting them back to limited accounts? Do this all using
the control pannel, but there is a backwards way into it:

Run>Control Userpasswords2>Select User>Properties>Group
Membership>Other>Administrators

*Note* If using this approach to change the User's Rights, RESTRICTED USER
is the same as LIMITED (when using the control pannel)

Hope this works.

Write back, letting me know how you have got on.
