View Full Version : Messenger Login Failure

Running 7.5 IM. Get message 800072efd saying that perhaps my firewall is
blocking the mesenger from connecting to my service. Turned off both
firewalls and the problem persist. Clicked on Troubleshoot and the test
results come back with one failure being KEY PORTS. How do I resolve this
problem.
Thanks to all in advance.

Greetings Tom,
If key ports is blocked then Messenger can't make an outgoing connection to port 1863 or 80
and 443 (all TCP). As such, it sounds like your firewall is still blocking it.

Hi Tom,
The Windows one only blocks incoming connections and cannot block Messenger period. I'd
actually go as far as uninstalling Norton entirely.

Tried unistalling and running IM with same results. Thanks for the help. Any
additional ideas would help. My nephew tampered with this pc and I suspect he
messed things up.

Dumb question: I downloaded AOL instant messaging but I can't find it on my
computer. When I go to windows messenger it won't let me sign in. It either
disconnects my connection to the web or gives an error message.
