Hi,

although I still have "Icons" in my control panel and they are all working
properly, the actual "picture for each icon has dissapeared. Each item is
only represented by "blank" icon - can anyone assist in how I rebuild these?
I think there maybe some sort of registry error but am not sure where to
look. This all appeared to happen after I tested a piece of childrens
educational software for someone to see if it was XP compat. I did notice
that it installed quicktime but was supposed to have checked system first for
any version already in existence. I have tried system restore but this has
not helped either. Several desktop icons for things like, My Computer and My
Documents were also affected but I mamanged to restore those myself.

Any assistance greatly appreciated - thanks - Lisa

Download the free TweakUI. There's a feature called 'Repair'. Select
'Icons'.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/c/a/fca6767b-9ed9-45a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Note: Version 2.10 requires Windows XP Service Pack 1 or Windows Server
2003.

Delete \Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application
Data\iconcache.db and reboot. This will rebuild the icon cache.
