Does Microsoft lock the access to the printer port? I wrote a program that
tried to access the printer's control, data, and status ports for taking in
data, but my program just freezes. Could someone please help me?

One of the primary reasons that WinXP is so much more stable than
earlier (i.e., Win9x) operating systems is that applications are *not*
allowed to directly access hardware components. All such applications
must work via the HAL (Hardware Access Layer).
