View Full Version : cannot add/remove (not just the item listing)

I cannot remove a program using the "Add/Remove". It is a simple piece of
educational software. The list of installed programs is correct, but clicking
"Change/Remove" does nothing. There is no unintall utility with the program
itself.

I also tried reinstalling. The install Shield started, but did not complete.
No message.

I also removed the program and its registry entries (after a reg backup),
but could not reinstall the program.

So is the program removed? That's what your last sentence implies.
Contact their tech support for removal and installation help.

Tanks for responding. I'm really stumped.

The Tech Support for this product is very limited, and I expect limited to
whatever the owner can code in C+.

Yes, I think the program *should be* gone, but I cannot reinstall. So I
restored the working version from a backup. It runs. It shows up in the
Add?Remove list in Control Panel, but clicking Change/Remove does nothing. If
I delete every scrap of it I can find, including in the registry and then
reboot (even in Safe Mode), the install wizard starts but then disappears. No
message.

I actually suspect that this is a Windows XP problem, not related
specifically to the app in question. MS can't help, because -- as I
discovered today -- I have an OEM version of Win XP Pro.

Sorry I can't help you out any further on this, Keith. Good luck.
