I was doing some things on my computer and it was getting a bit wierd on me as
it usually does when its been on for too long, i restart windows, and i log
in, then when i can see the desktop/start menu, after 2 seconds of it
loading, it freezes. I had this happen to me everytime i log in, but not
frozen forever! I had it frozen for like 5-10 seconds max. I think it freezes
while loading the start-up programs. But now i can't really do anythign exept
re-format my hdd or something.. I can however move the mouse cursor and get
the task manager. thats how i'm online and here right now, i'm on my
computer, what i see on my screen right now is firefox, and a frozen
menubar...
oh, and a task manager...

i tried termnating the programs in the task manager, but like i said, its
not that kind of program.. please any help would be great.. i'm not as much
of a newb to windows as i seem, but i have tried everythign i know.. :(

Everythign works exept that the menu is fronzen and so is the explorer.exe
and the desktop..
oh, and i do not have a recent recovery cd, i only have one all the way from
when i just boought my computer (abotu a year ago) and i have Windows XP
Media Center Edition, on a Sony Vaio. I don't wonna re-format my hdd, i have
way too many
important things on it right now... i was thinking of hooking it up to
another computer & accessign the files and putting em on a cd or something,
but i don't have another computer. Please help anyway possible..

Thanx
(sorry for the typos, & sorry for the same post topid in the Windows Xp
General board, i didnt see this board first... sorry..)

I'm having exactly the same problem right now. I can run firefow from the
task manager but the desktop and taskbar are frozen and I can't get any work
done. I reformatted three months ago and don't want to have to do it again.
Please help!

wow, you too? damn... i hope this thing will be corrected in Windows Vista..

i guessed file names and guessed my burner filename (sonic record now), i'm
just gonna try all my stuff to dvd cds or something... even thoguth its gonna
take a while... i have a 200GB hdd :-\

damn, this really sux.. i'm not quite sure, but i think i know a way out of
this... what if you would update your windows? not format your drive, but
update your windows with a cd or something... i don't think its gonna delete
any of the files... althought i could be wrong... i guess i'm gonna have 2
try it to find out.. i'll wait thought, maybe i'll find a simpler solution..
hopefully.. :'(

OK, after MUCH tinkering, I ended up paying for the liscenced version of
Spyware Doctor, since none of my other spyware detectors seemed to be doing
anything. ButSpyware Doctor actually WORKED. I had a Trojan that Ad-Aware had
been picking up on but wasn't stopping the source of the dialers, and Spyware
Doctor fixed it. If you have the money, you should definately try it, I also
had a 300 gig hard drive and didn't want to reformat, so I hope it works for
you.
