If your motherboard is older, you probably only have ports for USB 1.1.
If you have a desktop (as opposed to a laptop), you can buy a PCI
controller card that will add USB 2.2 capability. These add-in cards
are not very expensive and you can buy them at any computer supply
store, either locally or online.

Hi,

You need to check if you have a flash drive that requires a USB ver 2.0 port
on the computer. Most flash drives are backward compatible with USB 1.1, the
older version of USB.

A USB host controller is responsible for communicating with USB devices and
is on your system board (motherboard). You can identify the type of
controller in your computer by performing a simple step...

click start; select run. In the "open" box, type "devmgmt.msc" (without the
quotes) and click Ok.. this should bring the device manager up.

You would see a list of categories, one of them would be "Universal Serial
Bus controllers".. click the (+) sign next to it and you should see some more
devices listed...

if you see Universal host controller, your computer has USB 1.1
If you see Enhanced host controller, your computer has USB 2.0

If you see the first one, you may require a USB 2.0 card. IF you see the
second one, it might be a problem with your drivers and you may have to check
with your computer's manufacturer..

Regards...
