View Full Version : TCP/IP print server using USB printer

I'm trying to setup Print Services to allow clients to print to port 9100 on XP just like they can do to the laser printer sitting on the network.

I read through some old posts, and many others have asked the same question, but the answer is simply install Print Services for Unix. I can't find any setup guide, I've looked in the XP help and searched MSDN.

I have to print from a device that only supports printing to a PCL3 network printer.

TIA

I'm not trying to print to a network printer. I'm trying to run a service on XP that listens on port 9100 and forwards print jobs to a USB printer.

"I'm not trying to print to a network printer"
That's what you think!

In effect, you are providing a network printer and services via win XP and
your local USB printer.

You will need to write an application that provides that support. XP does
not contain any software service for this functionality.

go "Control Panel" -> "Software" -> change to folder "windows components" ->
"other file & print services" -> TCP/IP services for Unix

Sorry, I don't know the exact wording in english, as I only have access to
german versions.
