I have recently bought a new computer with Windows XP
Service Pack 1. I have installed a multi-funtion printer
and an internal DSL modem. My computer crashes with the
message IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL. It can crash as soon as
I boot up, after an hour of web surfing or even when I
try to shut down. The crash is unpredictable but
inevitable. I downloaded all new drivers that were
supposedly compatible with XP. I uninstalled the
printer. I tested the ram with a program called
Memtest386 which ran all night without finding an error.
I checked Device Manager for IRQ conflicts. I changed
the Virtual Memory per a Microsoft bulletin. I am using
Norton Antivirus 2003 that came with the computer and
Black Ice Defender V 2.9 which didn't. I have also
loaded some old programs, mostly for the kids. I'm at a
loss here. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Maybe Norton and Black Ice don't get along. Also, if you have a Nvidia
Graphics card then try a different driver.
The printer and modem if new should be WinXP compatible.
