I would say that you and others are lucky. Microsoft and
any number of other customer service oriented businesses
are charge first and deal with any mistakes in billing
later. I haven't had to deal with this on a customer basis
since I usually get my resources as part of the
developer's network or fix it myself.

I would prefer a release of a stated beta (or more likely
an alpha) patch of something that might work than to pay
for something that only states that you "might be charged"
and that it "might not work."
