View Full Version : ATI 9700 All In Wonder PRO causes system to Freeze

My system freezes despite having tried four different sets
of ATI drivers. The problem occurs when I have AGP Fast
Write and Hyperthreading enabled. If I disable those
functions the system runs smoothly most of the time.
I have an MSI MS-6565 mother board with the E7205 Granite
Bay chip set.
Is there a fix for this problem? I would like to get the
max performance from my system by enabling AGP Fast Write
and Hyperthreading.
Thanks,
Grant

ATI techs recommend disabling fastwrites. As far as HT I don't imagine any
problem but then I have never tested it.

Sounds like you have an older revicion 1 ATI card that can't support 8x AGP.
Revision 3 and above of the ATI 9700 will support HT and 8x AGP with
fastwrites on. There is so few software titles that support HT or 8xAGP
that I would not worry about. it. It you are one of those who just has to
have all the candy turned on, then I suggest getting a Rev 3 card, or buying
a 9800.

Thanks for the info. Nobody at ATI told me about a
difference in Rev 1 and Rev 3 cards. The ATI 9700 PRO was
sold in a retail box that said it was an APG 8X card.
I guess I will have to turn off the AGP Fast Write.
Thanks,
Grant
