explorer.exe complete failure

hello. thanks for reading the post. i have a dell
inspiron notebook with windows xp. i can not open any
folders or operate explorer.exe. an error message appears
when i try. the site i go to after error rep does not
help. at first explorer only crashed seldomly, and i
could find silly ways to open it. its failures seemed to
have increased and now it seems to be complete. ive
downloaded all of the windows updates as of around march
or early april. i tried to restore to the earliest points
and it doesnt sovle the problem. i desperatly need just a
little advice or a reference. i can run other programs on
the comp but cant really explore. its been like this for
quite a while.

If you have the WinXP CD you can do a Repair Install. www.dougknox.com
