What is whiteboard (windows messenger), and what is it used for?

The name comes from a whiteboard - the board that's used to draw or write on
in meetings (one of the dry erase boards normally) and is used for basically
the same thing. You and the person you're chatting to can use it to draw
diagrams on and share them for example.

Thanks Jonathan.
Apart from sharing applications (Word, PowerPoint, etc) using Whiteboard, is
there some way I can share doodles and scribbles, ie handwriting, so that we
I can work on a problem with another party? Will this require additional
software as well as hardware, eg a notepad?

Hi CT,
The main collaboration features in Messenger (Application Sharing and Whiteboard) are
actually Netmeeting components and are pretty much the best you're going to get (for free).
One thing that falls into the category of what you're looking for is Microsoft OneNote's
Shared Sessions (Live Sharing in 2007) feature. Some info is here:

It has no Messenger integration though and works best for what you're looking for with a
TabletPC.
