Hi August,
I had this same problem and was checking my post for a
reply, I saw your post from a few days ago with Skips
suggestion and I tried it, I had to add another step
though, try this:
1. Go to Start/Run and type "cmd", press enter
2. In the DOS window type "CD C:\" ,press enter
(This step backs you out to the c:\ prompt)
3. Insert the Windows XP disk in the CD drive.
4. At C:\ prompt type "sfc/scannow",press enter

This process compares the original files from the CD and
replaces any corrupt files on your computer, it took my
computer 20 minutes with the CD to recover everything.
Hope this helps.
