My grandson has an XP and asked me to contact you people
to ask about Scandisk and Defrag on XP.
I Understand Scandisk is called: Disk Error Checking in
XP; and found MKB article 315265, however when its used in
Win ME, there are other steps to be taken, i.e. remove
any programs that may be active in the background:
Antivirus, Firewall, auto-protect, scheduled Tests, etc.
I'm wondering if this aplies to XP ??
Now Defrag. On Win ME I use the "Clean boot the Computor"
method and I read MKB article 310541 and wondering if
there are
something else as well. Tks for your help.

Scandisk is now known as Check Disk:

Open the Command Prompt and type: CHKDSK /F , and hit enter.
Answer "yes" and reboot your computer.

1. Open XP's "Help and Support".
2. Look under "Pick a Help topic".
3. Click on "Performance and Maintenance"

Chkdsk and Disk Defragmenter are less prone to interruptions by other =
programmes in Windows XP so you can probably disregard this as an issue.

Download Adaware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ and =
use it to remove parasites.

How good is your housekeeping?

1. In Outlook Express empty your Deleted Items folder.

2. In Outlook Express run File, Folder, Compact All whilst OFFLINE.

3. Run Disk Cleanup. Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk =
Cleanup.

Do these before running Disk Defragmenter.

Hope this helps.
